Review: QCinema International Film Festival 2015 DoQC International Documentary Competition

Three portraits of different lives caught in between a crossfire of unwavering faith and ambiguous history. Book 1: A Man who claims Jabidah Massacre is a lie, Book 2: Moro rebel fighters who be- lieve Jihad should be a way of life and Book 3: Women caught in the wrath of war. Interwoven sto- ries to create a tapestry of Mindanao’s forgotten people.

My Verdict: 4/5

Of Cats, Dogs, Farm Animals, and Sashimi is a slice-of-life documentary about the rubber planta- tion boys in Zamboanga Sibugay. It’s about boyhood journeys and life’s realities told in a free-spir- ited yet melanchholic manner. - See more at: http://qcinema.ph/program/doqc/of-cats-dogs-farm-animals-and-sashimi/#sthash.kn7cqki2.dpuf

My Verdict: 3/5

Focusing on four LGBT couples on their stand on equality and the right to marry, Traslacion: Ang Paglakad sa Altar ng Alanganin addresses the complicated quest in defining themselves within a conservative society.

My Verdict: 5/5

Play, Listen, Pause. Rewind. A series of audio recordings present an unseen America, this documentary feature unfolds through the eyes of eavesdroppers from the tropics.

My Verdict: 3/5

As it documents the archeological diggings in a remote barrio, it unearths the individual and collective recollections of archeologists and the local residents of Sitio Tuhian, Catanauan, Quezon. Its intertwining tales become a tapestry of relentless socio-cultural and historical amnesia.

 My Verdict: 3/5
